Hollyhock 2017:
Restoring the spirit of community

by Kim Haxton

Our session this past summer at Hollyhock, on traditional Klahoose territories, brought 18 leaders from around BC and the US together to solve common challenges. This training offered tools to heal the wounds of colonization by restoring the spirit of community. Our program utilized tools to restore relationships—with self, with others, with culture, and with the land. We did so through play, through songs, and through collaborative team building exercises.

Self-awareness is key to being an effective leader. The natural world has been a source of personal wisdom for Indigenous people for time immemorial. Our work at IndigenEYEZ bases leadership practice in that vital source of insight—the land itself.

Through the proven creative community approach, we teach easy-to-use tools for becoming a leader who can engage people from diverse backgrounds, host challenging group discussions, and mobilize communities to work towards a common purpose.

We had ample scholarships available, so we were able to have several new artist facilitators join us and it was so inspiring to watch them increase their capacity as leaders.

We’d love to have you join us next summer for our third year at Hollyhock, July 22-27, 2018.
