March 24, 2020—Cawston, BC: We have been holding youth empowerment camps out on the land for the past 6 summers. These transformative camps have created many memories and strong relationships as you can see from the highlights below.
We are saddened to announce that there will be no camp this summer as we look for more partners to work with us and build up our capacity, but the impacts and changes can far reaching if we share our techniques and empower family and community members.
We will be focusing our efforts now on delivering camps that include parents, elders and youth workers to help strengthen the relationships across the generations and so that when they go home after the camp the youth have people who can maintain the uplift.
We need more facilitators to help us from the communities who can come with the youth and bring the activities back to their communities to continue the growth they achieve at the camp.
Youth impacts can be not as long term, if they do not have mentors in the community the can connect with. Facilitator impacts can be stronger if there multi-generational advocates.
We’re a long terms strategic direction, we’re a movement working towards systemic change, focused not only on today, but 7 generations ahead.
• Share tools to rebuild the fabric of our communities
• Breathe life back into our Indigeneity
• Rekindle traditional values of love, kindness, respect, and honor
